Brett dropped us off at the Leederville train station. In pouring rain we rushed off to the station to discover that alas, we had no change and the machine only takes coins. Back in the rain to the nearest shop to get change & stock up on coke for the day. $6.40 for two cokes $6.80 for a train trip to the coast, can get on and off at any time within 2hrs. We were feeling still very tired from the flight and late night chatting. Caught the train to Perth main station where we waited about 5 minutes for the next train. Leanne took a photo of me in a very sleepy state waiting for the train.
We got off at Cottesloe Beach and had a short walk to the beach. Looked around the Bali restaurant, very nice although closed.
We then walked towards Fremantle along one of the many gentle paths along the coast and came across an interesting sundial, (alas no sun) and a decorative anomite mosaic
We had lunch at Kaillis, the most amazing fish that either of us had ever eaten. Like Capetown the seagulls will eat if all if given half a chance. Fortunately the tables all have umbrellas, which keep some of the rain away but more importantly separate droppings from food.
Dashed off to the round house , the oldest building in Western Australia. They shoot the naval gun off daily at 13:00. Previously the ships used the signals to set their clocks but with modern radio signals this is no longer required. We arrived just before it was due to fire and sprinted round the building to get their as the shot fired. Even though it was expected Leanne shrieked! Scary stuff :-)
